When I was young, right around the time that I should have gotten my letter from Hogwarts, a friendly man from Africa visited my family. His name was Ebrima, but we called him Solo, and he came all the way from the Gambia. During his stay, my family took him on several trips around different citys and he worked at a hotel for some time to gain insights on the European hotel business. Obviously, Solo also visited Dauchingen, which in 2008 was already filled with supporters of his home town Bintang. His visit there is also documented in a short article from the “Dauchinger Anzeiger”. You find an English translation below.
Visit from Gambia
For several weeks Mr. Ebrima Drammeh stayed in Germany on invitation of the Reinelt family as representative of the village Bintang (Gambia). He wanted to get to know the country that is talked about so much in his home country. He spent longer periods of time in Munich, Lindau, Freiburg and finally in Dauchingen. In the process, he gained a thorough insight into life and work in Germany.

In the village of Bintang, five children are now receiving regular financial support from Dauchingen. These specially selected children go to a secondary school in Brikama and a deaf-mute boy to a school for deaf-mutes in Serrekunda. There they live with relatives and are cared for by them. Two of the children have already completed a year in Brikama with very good results. Without the help of Dauchingen, i.e. the school, the Farrenstall, several private sponsors as well as private donations and personal contacts, it would not be possible to support these gifted children and their families. It is indeed help for self-help! We hope that Mr. Drammeh has many good things to report in his home country. At the meeting with Mayor Anton Bruder, he thanked the Dauchingen community in the name of Bintang and all those who so actively support his village. We are already looking forward to our return visit to Bintang.
